Sketch Text is a fairly simple tool that can lead to a wide variety of results It can support practically any TrueType font, and more can be installed. Obviously this all WAY exceeded my attention span, but I wanted to share it for those who may want to tackle this process. As many users know, SOLIDWORKS has a sketch tool that can be used as the basis of modeling a feature like this: Sketch Text. This does not truly make a writing font, rather it's more like using Phonto to curve text, you do this for each bit of text you want to write, and import it. Rather than printing in the "bubble" outline, and filling in with a pen, you fill in the outline digitally before sending it to print. The process is basically a digital version of filling in the font. This involved using a vector editing program like Inkscape. You can't just convert "normal" fonts to writing fonts. But when it comes to writing, it's not that simple.

Now for all other projects, I just download free fonts off the internet, install them, an cricut cuts them just fine. Weld is not necessary for print, where the letters do not touch - but it's really important for cursive writing) If the centers of letters fill in when you weld, try sizing the text to something ridiculous like 200 wide, weld, then resize back to the smaller size. I keep my writing fonts in zip files in a folder, then use fontlab pad (which can read the fonts right from the zip files!) to create my text and upload it to design space. But for some reason the Solidworks/Bobcam mix seems unable to generate code using a simple stick font. Have done it easily with a number of CAD/CAM packages (G-Zero, Geopath, Gibbscam, Mastercam, Solidwords, Featurecam to name some). Guys, this is a very basic need - engraving stick fonts. If we change the font to the stick font, then Solidworks generates errors when trying to close the sketch, complaining about the lack of closed contours etc. If we generate the text using a truetype font like Arial, Solidworks will extrude it and Bobcam will generate code for it, but we don't want the engraving tool to be outlining the font, we want a stick font or the tool to just do the center of the font with a single stroke. Solidworks refuses to extrude the stick font. If we just use a sketch of the text using the stick font OLF SimpleSansOC in Solidworks, there are no errors in SW, but Bobcam V2 doesn't recognize that there is any object to be machined and won't generate a tool path.
